Deacons End Bahamas Trip With A Blowout
Wake Forest clobbers local team, 106-63
Sept. 3, 2006
NASSAU, Bahamas -- Playing without its only fourth-year senior, center Kyle Visser, Wake Forest had no problem whipping the Rockets, a local professional team, 106-63 in an exhibition game here Sunday.
Visser sprained his ankle in Saturday's 108-92 win over the Coca-Cola Explorers. With Visser sidelined, his back-ups -- redshirt freshman David Weaver and true freshman Chas McFarland -- made the most of the situation. Weaver scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and McFarland scored eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Sophomore point guard Shamaine Dukes nearly recorded a triple-double with eight points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Sophomores Cameron Stanley and Harvey Hale chipped in 14 points each. Sophomore Kevin Swinton scored 13 points and freshman Jamie Skeen added 11.
Other Wake Forest scorers: L.D. Williams (eight points), Casey Crawford (seven points), Anthony Gurley (three points) and Ishmael Smith (two points). Senior Michael Drum did not score but was credited with six steals.
Wake Forest concluded its Labor Day weekend trip to the Bahamas with a 2-0 record. The Demon Deacons return home tonight and will resume practice in mid-October.
Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser used a two-team platoon system similar to what the USA Senior National Team recently used. Every player saw significant action.
The Demon Deacons were balanced all weekend. To illustrate, Wake Forest scored 214 points in two games, yet Wake's leading scorer for the weekend was Swinton, who averaged 11.5 points per game.
