Default Big East Preview

Predicted Order of Finish:

1. Georgetown
2. Pittsburgh
3. UCONN
4. Marquette
5. Villanova
6. Syracuse
7. Louisville
8. West Virginia
9. Seton Hall
10. Cincinnati
11. Depaul
12. South Florida
13. St. Johns
14. Notre Dame
15. Providence
16. Rutgers

Notes:

I'm not a fan of the "New Big East". I loved the Old Big East but there are just way too many teams in this conference and this was by far the hardest predict. I think Georgetown and Pitt are the clear top 2, I think UCONN is firmly entrenched at 3. After that 4-7, you could pull randomly out of a hat and it wouldn't make much of a difference. Same goes with 8-16.

UCONN will reload folks. They got hammered by early entry into the draft but they reloaded with a very good recruiting class and will make some noise at the top of the Big East.

Can Villanova overcome the loss of the best trio of guards in school history? I think they can. They won't be as good as they have been the last 2 years but make no mistake about it, this team has some talent. They return major contributors in Dante Cunningham, Mike Nardi, Will Sheridan, and Shane Clark. They also add their best player from 2 years ago in F Curtis Sumpter who if he stays healthy could very well win Big East player of the year. Add to that some excellent freshman guards and they should be back in the tourney

Darkhorse: Marquette. Dominic James is electric and is good enough to will this team to the top 3 in the Big East if he has a big year.

My All Conference Team:

G - Dominic James (so.) - Marquette
G - Ronald Ramon (jr.) - Pitt
F - Jeff Green (jr.) - Georgetown
F - Curtis Sumpter (sr.) - Villanova
C - Aaron Gray (sr.) - Pitt

Player of the Year:
G Dominic James - Marquette (Sumpter's knee scared me from picking him but I think he's got a great chance as well)

Newcomer of the year:
F Sam Young - Pitt

Newcomers to Watch:

F Sam Young from Pittsburgh is a tremendous athlete that should provide a lot of versatility for the Panthers.

Guards Scottie Reynolds and Reggie Redding from Villanova. Reynolds will start and will probably run the point for Villanova and Redding my start as well, if not he will be the first off the bench. Both of these guys can really score.

F Curtis Kelly, F Stanley Robinson, G Jerome Dyson. This trio helped make up one of the most heralded recruting classes in all of college basketball. All should see major minutes with Robinson and Dyson seeing the most PT.

G/F Paul Harris from Syracuse. I almost picked Harris for newcomer of the year. He's a stud, built like a football player and probably the best freshman defensive player in the nation not named Greg Oden.

Only 1 more conference left, and it's the best IMO, the SEC....

Just checking back on these and found that you have Sam Young as newcomer of the year , Wouldnt the newcomer go to a freshman or do you consider the newcomer award to best new starter because I wouldnt really call him a starter either 14 minutes thus far but will increase because of his talent . I wouldnt consider him a bench player just another player that can step in at any point and make a impact .
