5. Georgia
6. Vanderbilt
West:
1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Mississippi State
4. Arkansas
5. Mississippi
6. Auburn
Notes:
This is the best conference in college basketball this year, IMO. There are 4 teams in this conference that could have a chance at a National title. Florida, LSU and Alabama are among the top 10 teams in the entire nation. Then you have very solid teams like Tennessee and Kentucky and Mississippi State will be darkhorse this year.
The individual talent in this conference is OUTSTANDING, Florida has the best starting 5 in college basketball. Then you have LSU who is loaded with talent and Alabama who has the best PG in the nation, IMO, in Ronald Steele.
It will be interesting to watch Florida and see if they can stay focused. They will get everyones best game this year and it's extremely difficult to repeat.
Darkhorse: Kentucky. This is a roster loaded with underacheiving former McDonald's all-americans. If they can gel and start playing to their potential they could make some serious noise.
My All Conference Team:
G - Ron Steele (jr.) - Alabama
G - Chris Lofton (jr.) - Tennessee
F - Joakim Noah (jr.) - Florida
F - Al Horford (jr.) - Florida
C - Randolph Morris (jr.) - Kentucky
Player of the Year: F/C Joakim Noah - Florida
Newcomer of the year: F Duke Crews - Tennessee
Newcomers to Watch:
The entire Tennessee recruiting class. Bruce Pearl landed one of the best classes in the nation. F Duke Crews, F Wayne Chism, G Ramar Smith, G Josh Tabb, and G Marques Johnson will all get serious PT.
Guards Derek Jasper and Jodie Meeks. Will get lots of PT and add depth to what could be a very good UK backcourt.
G Patrick Beverley and F Michael Washington for Arkansas. Beverely can score in bunches as shown by his 28 points the opener. Washington is a skilled big man that should also get some big minutes.
Well, that concludes my conference previews. Should be a great season!
