I think its really hard to judge running backs who aren't the super elite or super bad. So much of their performance is dependant on factors out of their control. I'm pretty sure that every team has an extra running back or two capable of 1000+ yard seasons if they utilize them right and have a good line. The first 5 rounds of the draft are chalk-full of running backs like this, and they don't all have to be named Bush or Addai. Plenty of guys like Frank Gore for example to pick up and quickly hone.

@Hocks , thats why I said you could call him solid , Also most of the discussion came from when BostonWr said you can find solid rb's a dime a dozen and simply dont agree with that .

@ Vince, You say Frank Gore ... but really the only reason he fell was because his knee injury , just like Mcgahee . Also I think we need to define solid rb's . I dont consider rushing for 1000 solid . I think it begins with at least 1200 . I mean to get 1000 all you need to rush is 62.5 yds a game that isnt at all impressive , now 1200 will get you 75 a game not that great but not that bad as a 1000 rusher would do . And you add Reggie Bush , I need to see him as a full time rusher to consider him fully solid. All he proved last year is he could catch a hellava lot of passes out of the backfield and get alot of all around yards.Joesph Addai is on his way as well rushing behind that good line in Indy.

Now speaking of the draft , RB's coming in that could make a difference over time AP , Marshawm Lynch , Tony Hunt ( call me a homer but I think he can do things in the NFL) , Darius Walker ...anyone im forgetting?

Also@ Vince that no true about every team has a rb or two that can rush for 1k . Lets take a small look into the League

Minny - You would say Mewelde Moore , Artose Pinner , Ciatrick Fason could run for 1000 at any times in there career ?

Cle - James Harrison, some Barclay guy ?

That just prove not every team does now of course there is teams like the Pats , Panther , Bears , Chargers ,Cowboys. But just not every team has a reserve RB that can muster that kind of production .

The Vikings have one of the worst o lines and quarterbacks I've ever seen, so yes, maybe their running backs would stand a chance in another situation.

Cleveland just sucks

Look at Sam Gado. In 2005 Ahman goes down and he steps up with a media-described "breakout" sensation. Could have had great numbers playing the whole season. Compare that with his 2006 season. Alls I'm saying is that unless the RB is upper echelon like LT, in most cases I think the team makes the RB, not the other way around.

Actually there o-line is pretty good, Brad Johnson is ancient but speaking of RB's Minny that didnt stop Chester Taylor from rushing for 1,214.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make.

Dominic Rhodes could certainly be put in the solid RB category, when he gets a chance to play he produces at a pretty high level.

Antonio Pittman is ranked as high as 3rd among this years RB's on most draft boards.

You're overvaluing 1,000 yd rushers. It's no longer a great accomplishment to run for 1,000 yards. Most of those guys you mentioned COULD run for 1,000 yards if they got starters carries, we're only talking 63 yards per game here.

Like I said, there's pretty much a small group of elite RB's (which McGahee is not) like Tomlinson, Johnson, Barber, etc. After that there's a huge group of 15-25 backs that are almost interchangeable given equal amounts of carries and the same offensive line.

There are a few backs who may be valued a bit more highly (Brian Westbrook for example) because they can do some other things other than just run the ball but for the most part you can afford to move your starting RB as long as you don't have a Tomlinson type player back there.
