Justin Upton arrested for DUI
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Tampa Bay Devil Rays prospect B.J. Upton was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, media outlets in North Carolina reported Friday.
Upton, 21, who is playing with the Triple-A Durham Bulls, was pulled over at about 3:30 a.m. According to a police report, Upton was stopped for driving 51 miles per hour on a 30 mph zone. He was given a Breathalyzer test and registered a 0.11 -- above the 0.08 limit at which a driver is presumed impaired under state law.
Upton was released pending a promise to appear in court.
Baseball America rated Upton as the second-ranked prospect in America in 2004. He was called up by the Devil Rays that season, batting .258 with four home runs in 159 plate appearances. He was Durham's player of the year in 2005.
