Default Buying Power set to -$14K

heard from a trader about a trader that got is buying power set to -$14K and that it was stated in a thread in the forum. Are there anyone else that have heard about that or is it just confusion from this trader?

I heard of a trader using a $25 free account to sell short about $20K worth of stock and put it all into a team's futures to win the Super Bowl. Didn't quite work out for them. But don't you believe for a moment that they stopped futures because they are too close to gambling.

So when your team doesn't win the Super Bowl - it just becomes another dead account.

that what we can call a fraud.

But about that wasn't stated in the forum anywhere?

Sounds like risk free gambling with a lot of borrowed money. You win you cash it you lose you leave or get another free account.

all you need in order to short is the available cash - so if you have $25 in your account - and the share you are shorting is $20 - you now have minus one share in your account and $45. Now you can short 2 at $20 leaving you with minus three shares and $85.

I was under the impression that there was some kind of limit but it took me forever to cover the minimal shorts that I tested the waters with that I never went back there. So I do not know for sure what the "limit" is or if there is one.

The guys that shorted a ton of stock would be the best to ask on that.

what a great mistake from ASM........having no security for shorting and not even lower the buying power ...........a joke. Start to ask yourself if Chris know so much about the derivate market?

But ASM doesn't directly lose money on this, but the brokers lose their reserve of shares.
